My life has fallen into....

...Oblivion. I have never played an RPG before..ever! So, I read a killer review of Oblivion and figured, what the hell I'll try it.

First of all, I have no idea what I am doing. But, I have been completely absorbed into this game. There is just so much to do and so many different ways to do it. With the way my life is right now, I am grabbing my gaming sessions in like 30 minutes to an hour long incriments...which lends itself to single player type games. I still love playing CS and BF2, but I can't keep my skills sharp anymore. This game just feels like something that I can spend some real time with and get absorbed into. I already want to go back and start a new stealthy thief type guy...but I can't part with my warrior/tank guy quite yet.

I also love the fact that I can't run through this game in one weekend, or one sleepless night. I have been catching up on the last few years' great shooters, now that I have a capable gaming rig. But, even excellent games like HL2 or FEAR are 12-20 long hours at best. I just passed the 20 hour mark with Oblivion and I haven't even scratched the surface of the main storyline. I have just been exploring and fooling around mostly.

Well...30 minutes left of work, then it's back home...hang out til the wife and kid sleep...then its Oblivion til I pass out. I need to start working on a cure for vampirism. It might sound cool to be a vampire, but in practice, it's pretty tedious to have to avoid sunlight. Luckily, your guildmates don't seem to care if you feed on their blood while they sleep.....

so i have been hearing several small rumors about this game, actually it is more like broken radio transmissions, the people that start it dissapear into it...

dammit i cant take on a game like that this year.....

Seriously though, this is a great game. They advertise the "radiant AI", which just means that all the npcs have schedules and stuff to give the appearance of them having "lives". It has some glaring shortcomings, but it errors on the side of being fun for the player.

I would have though RAI stands for random AI....crazy stuff happens all the time. I was walking around a waterfront one night and 2 guys were engaged in a fist fight while a third guy stood their drinking a beer, watching them. To me, thats pretty funny.

My personal favorite thing to do is to walk into the mages guild and punch somebody, then run to the fighter's guild hall where I am a member. My boys will back me up, so before you know it you have a (+-) 10 npc brawl happening. With quicksave this doesn't really get old, and the outcome varies quite a bit.

careful with that....i walked into a mag guild in morrowwind, to sell em mushrooms (IMAGINE THAT) the next 42 hours of game play invoplved me having to systematically wipe out every majician on the map.....cause they were pissed, but then after that io walk into a town...they exited out the other side in mass

all i know is i had to go to the top of a mountain in the center of the map, and found the head knocker..or grand pooba if you will and wack him....

they shoulda just bought the damn things and threw em away ....
