My home PC is now out of comission. im at school writing this. just letting you guys know. the CPU fan bracket came loose of the Mobo, the CPU fan came out of contact with the cpu, allowing the cpu to overheat and fry both it and the mobo. im ordering a new setup soon, ill be switching to AMD with this one. any advice on what to get? cause im getting a mobo and cpu bundle. and debating getting an nvidia 6800. any advice yall?

How sure are you that the CPU is really dead?  P4's have some very impressive thermal diode regulation that shut the chip down just about instantly if they are overheating.  It's really hard to kill them that way - you can run them with no heatsink at all and they will just shut themselves down.  If you have already thoroughly checked the chip and mobo out, go ahead and look at a socket 939 motherboard with a winchester or venice core A64, but you might be better off cleaning the cooler really well, scrape off all the thermal paste crap, put on new, and try it again.  If you still need a new motherboard and CPU, let us know and give us a budget and we can put together a very nice rig for you for your budget.  Hopefully it won't be needed.  Also, don't get a video card in the next few weeks - I am expecting prices to start dropping because the G70 and R520 next gen chips from Nvidia and ATI are starting to be demoed.

well, would little black streaks and a black spot on the mobo be any sign? and an almost simultanious start up and shut down be a sign? i hit the button and it comes up for a little over a second and shuts back off. i wont have a computer for a while cause ive got to pay off my car first... and i only got $50 for my bday.
