im going to hopefully be buying a pistol soon and i was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for any or good prices on some

Balaso

depends on how you plan on using the pistol fallen. Best to get with me on Vent, but other wise, lay out your intended use, whether range use only, conceal carry/self-defense, sit look at and drool over, ect...

mostly for recreational shooting at the range but maybe eventually self defense

Well, here is the thing, the other gun owners and I can go back and forth on what the best type of gun is, and argue minute details all day long. In the end however, your unique likes, dislikes, and body structure will ultimately determine the best type of gun for you. I will give you a basic rundown, but my true recommendation is go to a gun store and hold different guns. You will find many models of the same caliber guns. They will differ in size and ammo capacity so before I can even make a recommendation, I need to know what style (auto-loading, or revolver), and what physical size gun you like. After that go find a range that will let you rent various types of guns and put some time in with them.

Revolver or auto-loading (or semi-auto) debates go on endlessly and both have a rather equal balance of pro's and con's. Revolvers have a simpler functionality and tend to be more reliable, while semis give you more ammo capacity and point and pull firing (in the case of double actions). In the end, what suits you best is only going to be determined by actual handling and use.

I am putting a link to an article that goes fairly in depth on choosing a weapon. Remember though that he also has his own personal prejudices on handgun types, so filter out the bias and stick to the factual data. Put some real time into handling and firing different types of guns, then once armed with more info if you still feel you need help I will do what I can to make further recommendations.

well just my 2 cents fallen, but balaso is right, it is to each his own and whatyour most comfortable with.

me personally, pistol i do run with 9mm/38 type rounds, easier for me to control...however my brother and father can handle and confortably hold the .45s....still im a better shot with the 45 than them but damn, its a bit much for me personally.

however, as it stand revolver vrs auto.....get teh auto, cas\use if your having to pull the revolver, its only 5 rounds (fully loaded your an idiot lessin you just dropped the last shell) and in the court of law reloading a revolver and continued firing at assalent or otherwise is actually considered an act of intelligence and aforethought to your actions, whereas it is not the same for the auto, you can still claim heat of the moment, lil freaked at the time whatever....you get the idea.

you should find a gun range. try a simple gun for your first, hell i carried the same 3 for sevral years for i decided to carry another.  asmith and wesson .410 double barrel/dbl trigger hand made in 1901(my great grandma made all the shotgun loads for the family..../ ruger 22long revolver pistol .../ wather ppk euro edition/also had 2 hunting rifles that only hunted. winchester 30-6 and a weatherby 305. i have alot of inherited guns that started in my late teens ( three genrations of peace officers), and my late fathers excessive compsive collection (included scalped weapons from 6 years in veitnam)...and of course i have a few "backdoor"buried pieces. yet i still rent em from Knob creek gun range.

oh and jsut to let you know, subtle deffierences can make for WOW.

the american version of the walther ppk made me actually drop t to the ground when i threw the safety on, i had it pointed up, and threw the safety, which then dropped the damn hammer, but what you cant see is the lil metal plate drop tween the pin and shell....i thought it was to close to my ear and i just wasnt hearing the ringing yet when that hammer dropped... but apperently it does work quite well...i personally hate that damn safety more than any thing else in da world

for conceal and carry I always thought the two shot derringer palm pistol was fun to fire.  But other than that I have always wanted a pair of patton specials with pearl handles.

E.J.FUDD

holy hell you ever actually trie to pull the trigger back on the second shot of a deringer...ow for the love of god

heh pattons...thats what my great grandad carried pre patton, as a us marshal.

a pair of samuel colt silver plated pearl hadle .45s these lil guys have been in service for Texas for over 80 years, retired in the late 70s.

damn if he didnt have  the sweetest holsters for em too, had a spring mech made into em slight pressure down and *boing* and *bang*....the only real thing that ahs been replaced on them are the firing pin and trigger (man has that thing been filed down over the years...sneeze and you aint got no feet kind hair triggered they became.....

for your first gun, you shoot shoot the hell outa of it, clean the hell outa it, practice alot with it.

~get a good gun cheap.....one your not afraid of $$$ wise k
use this for a year or so, try others and find one your comfy with.

~~SUGGESTION, 9MM CHEAP...SHOOT IT TILL YA MELT THE BARREL, THEN MAKE YOUR REAL DECISION, CAUSE AFTER ONE COME MANY.......AND THEIR IS NO SUCH THING AS TO MANY GUNS.

I would also advise that you take some kind of safety course cause they will teach the proper methods of caring for your firearm and really help you understand the proper techniques to handling a deadly weapon.

E.J.FUDD

and remeber fallen, you will now and forever more have to stand/walk infront of all others now....

for a canadian with a gun will get ya accidently shot in the back.....
