After reading talon's post it gave me the idea of asking on here what I have been thinking about for awhile.

Right now I am about to finish my first year of college and I have a bit of a problem, I can not decide what I want to do for the rest of my life. Yes, I said in my other topic that I was probably going with management or international management but thats only a some of what I thought about doing with my life.

So I was thinking about joining the military while I tried to figure it out. That way they can help pay for college after, I stay in shape, meet new people, and I get to serve my country while I do it. The problem is I do not know which branch I would want to join. I do not really want to fly anything. So I was wondering if some of you could maybe help me find out which I would want to join since a lot of you have been in the Armed Forces.

If this doesn't make much since I'm sorry, I have been studying to long and my brain isn't up to par at the moment.

What exactly do you want to do in the military?  What skills do you want to learn?  Did you look into ROTC?

I want to do some kind of infantry. What I would love to do would be a sniper(who doesn't though), special forces of some kind, airborne, or a medic. I do not really know how hard it is to get into those but I am assuming it is pretty tough.

I do not really know what skills I would want to learn. Any thing that would help me in the civilian life would be excellent, but if I really enjoy my enlistment I would not mind staying. Learning another language would be awesome.

I have not really looked into ROTC at the school but I did a quick search and a lot of their site seems to be missing.

I hope this helps some.

If you want infantry, sniper or recon, I recommend sticking with Army or Marines. If you like medic and would like to do a job where you could combine medic with special forces, go Air Force as Para Rescue. I can get you info on Para rescue, I'm sure Talon can get you the Army Info, and look to Muffdiver for info on the Marines.

Whatever you do, I'd highly recommend going as an officer rather than a grunt.  The pay is better, and it looks better on your resume going out.

Fallen, give me a call sometime if you want to talk about this...

You definitly should talk to veterans about what to expect and joining is really about.

you really need to think about what you want to do and how you can get it done.  The military can help, but might not be right for you.  It isn't a new job you can easily quit after starting.

Note:  Marines do not have medics.  We borrow them from the Navy.

:::Edit:::
Also, special forces and sniper and the like are murder on your body.  You will have to be in top physical shape and kill your feet, knees sholders, elbows, wrists, and your hearing will take a hit too... but you will beat the piss outa your body doing some really fun and cool things durring training.

Advice if you plan on going special forces you will probralbly want to do the army as a career in the army you cannot go to SF selection till you are the rank of specialist.  if you do make it into the SF program its 2 years of training then a min of 4 years as a operative.  if you are thinking of just using the military for college bills i wouldnt recomend SF.  as for infantry sniper or medic if you go into a recruiter do not sign up for 11x-ray that is undefined infantry make sure you sign up for 11b=rifleman/infantry you can may attend sniper school after you get to your assignd unit.  in the army to even get to sniper school you must shoot expert on your assignd weapon almost everytime and have a good pt score around 270 out of 300 its up to your unit what schools you attend but you may put in a request usually if you show interest and the will to go and suceed your commander will approve your request and put in the proper paperwork.  although if you want to go sniper specifically i believe the marines have a better program/school.  If you want to go medic you will attend school for 4 months.  speaking from experience as a medic your job is very versitile being a male you will probrably be put into a infantry unit/ cav unit,  you can be on the front line with a platoon of infantry back at a headquarters, drive a ambulance, and work at a clinic/hospital after you graduate the 4 month course you will recieve a EMT-B liscense so you can even work for a hospital outside of the military. there is also a 18 series medic (18series is SF) they are qualified to run clinics and do surgery (minor surgery)  the SF infantry are weapons experts and must know almost every type of weapon around today.  by know i mean how to assemble dissasemble maintian and fire that weapon.  the SF engineer builds structures blows shit up and disarms munitions.

if you join the marines you will not be able to be a medic just infantry the marines gets there medics from the navy.  there medics are called coremen i dont know much about the marines though so youll need to talk to one of our marine members about it
