This past friday i had an interview for a Client & Network Support Administrator position. My uncle (who happens to be president) got back from brazil and congratulated me on my job..then said they are building a plant in China and i should consider going over there and doing that. I'm still in school, but dang if the money is good i may do it...besides life as i know it over here has fallen through and fucked me royally.

What would you do?  Take the job and move to china for a year or 2 or stay here and work the job i was just hired for....same company and all..probably same job, but not sure.

Opportunities in life don't come often.  Take it when it presented to you.

same here man.  If you they are going to put you over seas and you do a good job there you have a better chance of moving up over there.  besides balaso and crow are both right take the opps when they come and it looks awsome on a resume.

i dunno i have stuff here that i dont want to lose...i know some things will stay around, but some i'm afraid will move on without me...and i don't want that to happen.....i have a good chance to move up here as well...but i've emailed the company for details...i'll see..

if i could i would..but she just moved here from edmonton with her 2 yr old daughter and got a fantastic job at an Interior design firm in town. She's quickly moving up and i would not ask her to sacrifice her career for that. She's never been happier...although if she could get on with a design firm over there...hmmmm...i dunno if she doesnt go i dont go.

Shit man, personally im dieing to get to Japan in a few years.  It looks pretty inticing for you to go over there, especially if there will still be a job in your future once you get back, you said it was the same people or something... All in all, its your call.  I think most of us would do it, and i can fully relate to your girl troubles, but ive got 4+ years between my degree and her degree, and 4+ hours between us, so may as well be optomistic.  She cant get too lonely with her child.  There has to be a way to make it work.

Sometimes you look for the wrong answers in the right place, and the right answers in the wrong place. Either way; im neither place, so dont ask.

There is no easy answer to this. You will probably regret whichever option you don't choose. Sorry to be pesimistic, but that's how life goes. Life changing decisions are rarely black and white. I say follow your heart and stick with your decision.

thing is i could stay for the girl and in a years time it could go all back to hell...but in my eyes its worth taking that chance.

Hi cryptic,

sorry if i am intruding or this is an old topic. I am an ex-member so dont mind me. Got bored and started to read some threads and wanted to give my 2 bits.

I live in Malaysia and am chinese.
dats about 3 countries away from china, 6 hours plane journey. My company is planning to open operations in Shanghai and telling you its not an easy task. Not such a simple ABC moving from one country to another.

1) If you going to move to shanghai, you are half safe if you cant speak mandarin. If you going elsewhere....good luck.
2) I had to submit my registration, signed contract and the articles of association to the ministry of commerce via my Chinese partner (which was essential), and the first thing that came out of the official was how much am i going to give him to get the approval. I stood there and directly ask him what is it you want. Said he would like a Sony plasma TV with a dvd set plus a show of good faith.
3) Stay away from China women. China women in the cities are vicious especially in nightclubs. If you dont give them what they want, they will find a way. Their bite is worse then their bark.

Cryptic, if your uncle is the president, then your family business has political leverage with the chinese authorities. If you have not finished school, finish it. Sure, you may think you have some people to help you out there and its an opportunity but it is a trade war out there. If you have not any experience, then make sure you listen to the advice of others really well. Dont get screwed over.
Go and do a feasibility study and learn about China. Its 5000 years of Chinese history and they still going strong for a reason.

Heres a story for people who are interested. China is known as the heaven of piracy. Daimler Chrysler - automaker of Mercedes Benz, moved operation plants in the southern precinct of China. They had to tie up with the local manufacturing plants and undergo through a mandatory compliance with chinese vendors who supply the parts. DC lost billions but still achieve net profit. The Chinese govt, says too bad, this is China, share it or leave the country.

Good luck in your decisions buddy, if you do come, its one hell of an experience.
