Ok heres my delimma...we have been usin dual core machines at work and they haul ass...i'm thinking about spending money on a new system...may take some time to save up for it, but im debating... since me and my girl are done im gonna do whatever i want, just need ideas from you guys.

is it worth it for me to upgrade???

My current spec (have had this computer for 3 or 4 years now).

Gigabye 8IK1100 rev 2. motherboard.
2.6 GHZ 800mhz fsb HT (Socket 478 just to give ya an idea on how old it is)
2GB Ram
128mb Geforce 6800 AGP
250gb Hdd
200gb Hdd
80 gb Hdd
DVD+-R DL drive
Windows Vista Ultimate
17in LCD
now i cant go out and do dual or quad sli...don't have that type of money just yet..but i was thinking dual core and was thinkin of pci-e graphics card....i'm just not sure.

my machine runs fine...after putting vista on though i hav enoticed a reduction in my FPS in WoW and CS...

Any thoughts....

I think you should get a new system and send me your old one!  |)

yea, mine is 478 with 2.8 500 FSB.

Are you able to just do a processor upgrade? Not sure what mobo you have to know what your upgrade options are...

If you are going new...might as well go Quad CPU and SLI.  By the second half of this year all the new software/games will be designed to take advantage of the quads.

OK well i stopped by frys had a look at the quad cores and sli's...... walked away with a 160gb sata drive (first sata drive i bought) for only 30.00   my vista ultimate from micrsoft came intoday too...so another 45.00 doin fresh install on 160.. putting the 250 and 200 as slaves. and takin the 80 out.

i think im gonna wait on the new system for now..... the quad core intel i wanted was 1000. i love my intel...but i may go for amd... maybe the 6400 running at 2.4ghz...thats not so bad. i want to break the 3ghz barrier though just so damn expensive.....

i woudl get a board that was sli ready, the had a nforce 570 sli abit there.....for 120. i was thinking hard on it...  but i decided to wait for a bit..

honestly...for the system i have now...woudl it be worth upgrading?

You would notice a big difference if you upgrade, however, wait until at least the end of the month if you do upgrade.  On 4/9/07 AMD is making some massive price cuts.  The x2 6000 will drop to around $190.  On the Intel side, they are dropping prices and introducing new models on 4/22/07, which will make the E6600 extremely attractive, and in Q3 they are dropping the quad core Q6600 to $266.  Not to mention the Nvidia 8x00 refresh coming up and the Q2 release of the R600.

Wait at least a month to upgrade.  You will see a very big difference when you do, though.
