well i hope everybody had a great xmas. mine was kind of exciting. we had a attack on our front gate wich injured one. he was hit in the thigh by shrapnel and it blew off his ass cheek. we also had a mortor attack in which one of our first sgt's suffered a tragic loss. his air conditioner was hit by shrapnel and no longer works we did have a injury from the mortors also but they were only flesh wounds he went out on a mission 2 hours later hes going to have a cool scar that goes from his cheek to his ear. besides all that what made xmas really crappy was that sombody was killed around 3am on xmas morning. the thing is if sombody dies the fob goes into commo black out where nobody can use the phones or the internet no communication whatso ever. oh i aslo went on patrol xmas eve and to see how these people live makes you understand why suicide bombing doesnt look that bad to them. the city smells like its a dump and there is literally trash everywhere you step the children walk around with no shoes and all the water is contaminated. families live in houses 10ft x10ft i even seen a old man washing his face in a puddle where not 4 ft away another man was pissing in the same puddle.
anyway i need to go i hope everybody had a good xmas
Talon I hope things go well and thanks for info about these type of things. It make me realize how lucky we are to have the freedoms and quality of life that we do. People say we went for the wrong reasons but I think what talon just said makes me believe that if we can improve upon that slightly by helping them form a democratic nation then im all for it.
Thanks for the front line update Talon. Always good to hear the news from grunt and not some politically motivated media. Take care and stay safe.
Quotethe thing is if sombody dies the fob goes into commo black out...
fob = Forward Operating Base for you non-military speaking ppl. Our fancy way of saying a place where we stay that we can't give you the location to.
so no clicky the flash light and yelling HEY GUYS OVER HERE OVER HERE....comon around the fire ..@ F.O.B...sounds like if you got rid of the SOB (sonsobitches for all you non texans) your FOB would be A~OK, and every one can be home for the P.A.P (phatAssParty for all you non-brothers out there)
talon- hope that brought a smile to your A.S.S
and please be careful and come home!
Nice responses, guys. I agree Cookie; hopefully that country gets better because of us. Not much use at this point in arguing whether it was our job or not to go and do it, cuz now it is.
Stay safe, Talon. One of my buddies finally got home after being honorably discharged from the Army Reserves. I'm so glad to have him back after the shit he went through (and most of it was "non-hostile"). Despite other parts of life being not so cool, we all feel blessed and happy now that he's home. I'm sure your close friends will feel the same about you.
Have a good new year.
